He's a little younger, but you can tell which way the envy runs in this family.
I ran into the owner while I was taking pictures, and we had a nice chat about our cars. He's 22, and only pays £500 a year for fully comp insurance; needless to say, I'm rather looking forward to my 22nd birthday, three years hence. I just hope there are still decent examples around, at decent prices, then.
So, that was an eventful strudel-run.

You shouldv'e made him an offer and man only £500 is insane he must've built up no claims since he was 17.

I would've, happily, but while he's only paying £500, I know I'd have been more in the range of £2000. And that's for Third Party, Fire and Theft.
Still, it gives me some hope for the future. I've been building up no claims' since I was 17, and seeing as this was my local Sainsbury's, his postcode's probably not much better than mine.

Damn that seems high, the insurance must be worse that I thought on the gti, it would be £2'000 for me fully comprehensive on a 2 litre diesel mondeo estate for comparison. After talking earlier I had a look for gti's and noticed autotrader only had one in the whole country for sale.

It's pretty nice but many many miles away from me...

Yup, two years. The 106 GTi's just a bugger to insure; I've actually gotten significantly better prices on a 205 GTi 1.9.
(They're not common, but AutoTrader's particularly bad for the 106 GTi. I've had far better luck on Gumtree, eBay Motors and Pistonheads.)

I'll make sure I stay away with those prices that's insane, might get a quote out of curiosity.

I would; the 106 GTi's in a completely different league from the Saxo VTR and Fiesta Zetec S I was talking about earlier. It's very much a proper, full-blooded GTi, while the other two are just insurance-friendly 'warm' hatches. I want one - about the only car I want more is a 205 - but I'm gonna hold off until I can own one for a sane amount of money.
My best so far's £1,897, by the way.

£2400 fully comp with 0 no claims. Not too bad really, just slightly more than an mx5 and an mx5 is less powerful.

That's really odd. For me, there's about £700 difference between a GTi and an MX-5.

Only about £300 difference for me.

British Car Insurance: How Does It Work?

No one will ever know. Although my insurance is slightly below average because my grandparents live in a nice-ish area and the car is going to be registered and "garaged" there.

I would try that trick with my parents, who live in a lovely village in the middle of the countryside... But I think the way that village is around four hours' journey from where I live might become something of an issue should I have to make a claim... I have got my stepdad listed as a named driver, though; it's shaved around £200 off some quotes.

I haven't tried adding any named drivers yet so duno how much difference it'll make. My grandparents only live two miles away so I should be fine with that, ridiculous that 2 miles makes such a difference.

That it is.
